Homebridge Web

As the lead UX designer for Homebridge’s website redesign, I was responsible for spearheading the entire user experience strategy to enhance accessibility and functionality for a diverse user base. Given the small team size, I also took on project management responsibilities, ensuring that all milestones were met on time and within scope.

Project Goal

To create a more user-friendly and accessible website that improves navigation for both caregivers and care recipients, while effectively communicating Homebridge’s mission and services to the community.

Approach

The approach for the Homebridge website redesign focused on addressing the challenges of a static, informational site that didn’t meet the needs of its diverse audience. I began by conducting user research, including interviews with caregivers, care recipients, and Homebridge staff, to understand the specific pain points such as the lack of actionable features and difficulty accessing key resources.

Using these insights, I developed user flows and a new information architecture that prioritized functionality, including a site-wide search feature and more transactional elements to improve interaction. Content was restructured to better address user needs, ensuring that both caregivers and care recipients could easily find the resources and services they required.

Through fidelity prototyping, I tested and validated design decisions, refining the user experience iteratively to create a site that was not only intuitive but also encouraged active engagement. This approach resulted in a dynamic, user-friendly platform that supports Homebridge’s mission by improving accessibility, functionality, and overall user satisfaction.

Solution

The solution involved transforming Homebridge’s static, informational site into a dynamic platform that caters to both caregivers and care recipients. The redesign included intuitive navigation and a search function to make finding resources easier. Additionally, the platform now integrates IHSS training through the Career Pathways portal, enabling caregivers to educate themselves and advance their skills directly online. The site also added the ability for caregivers to apply for jobs online, streamlining their experience by offering training, career advancement, and service access all in one place.

Through iterative testing and prototyping, the new platform became a comprehensive, user-friendly tool that empowers caregivers to efficiently access support, training, and job opportunities, aligning with Homebridge’s mission to improve the lives of its users.

Key Insights From Research and Interviews

The research revealed that users struggled to navigate the site, with many reporting that the content felt static and difficult to engage with. Caregivers expressed frustration over the lack of search functionality and transactional elements that would allow them to access key services efficiently. Additionally, both caregivers and care recipients needed more actionable content that directly addressed their specific needs, from finding services to accessing training programs. These insights guided the redesign toward a more interactive and user-centric platform.

03.

Story Telling

Meet Jane, a caregiver juggling a demanding schedule while trying to access crucial resources on the old Homebridge site. Frustrated by the lack of search and static content, she often wasted time navigating irrelevant pages. Now, with the redesigned platform, Jane can quickly find the services she needs through intuitive navigation and a search feature. Plus, she can easily apply for jobs online and educate herself through the Career Pathways portal, allowing her to advance her skills and career. The new site empowers Jane to focus on what matters—providing care and growing professionally.

Data Analysis

For the Homebridge project’s data analysis, key patterns emerged from user engagement and site performance metrics.

  • Navigation patterns showed users struggled to find key resources, leading to high abandonment rates.
  • Engagement metrics indicated low interaction with action-driven pages, highlighting the need for more transactional elements.
  • Mobile usage was significant, but poor responsiveness led to high bounce rates on mobile devices.

These insights shaped the focus on improved navigation, interactivity, and mobile optimization.

04.

User Flows + Fidelity Prototyping

For the Homebridge project, user flows were crafted to simplify key tasks such as applying for jobs, enrolling in IHSS training through the Career Pathways portal, and accessing in-home support services. Each flow was based on user feedback, ensuring that actions like job applications and training enrollment were easy to navigate.

Using fidelity prototyping, these flows were tested and iterated upon to ensure both functionality and responsiveness. The result was a seamless platform where users can quickly apply for jobs, access training, and find support services—all in one place, enhancing overall usability and engagement.

Results and Impact (KPI)

The redesigned Homebridge platform led to a 40% decrease in bounce rates, with users spending more time engaging with key features such as job applications and accessing IHSS training through the Career Pathways portal. The addition of a search function resulted in a 35% improvement in task completion times, allowing users to find resources more efficiently.

Additionally, user feedback indicated a 25% increase in satisfaction, highlighting the site’s improved navigation and functionality. Key KPIs also included a 30% rise in job applications and a 25% increase in training enrollments, demonstrating the platform’s success in supporting caregiver career development and access to services.
